This is not a comprehensive list of histology sites on the internet. It is just a small selection of sites that I for some reason or another find worthwhile visiting. If you know of something nice, let me know, and I'll have a look. In addition to these sites there are plenty of WEB "slide shows" around. A number of other good looking sites either "got stuck" or are "in progress" - let's see what comes up in the future.
- UIUC-COM Histology
- The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Internet Atlas of Histology is technically one of the most advanced
histology sites on the WEB that I have come across. On top of that, image
quality is generally exellent - although, and this is the only caveat, most
of the images are based on plastic embedded, non-human material which rarely
will resemble the images that you see in most histology or pathology textbooks.
The part of the site which is accessible to the public contains a wealth of sections. Sections can be found by looking up under "Slides" or by "Object". "Labs" provide access to slides with accompanying short texts and guides. The "Quizzes" section is unfortunately password protected.
It may take a few minutes to get used to the user interface of the site and, needless to say, large images mean long download times. But it's worthwhile. - University of California at Davis Histology Syllabus
- This site also uses a few of the more advanced features of the internet,
but it is easier to handle than the UIUC-COM Histology pages. The layout
is very nice. Images and texts are very good and comprehensive. The link
will get you to the homepage of the site. I like the "Histology Syllabus
- Lab Atlas" best, which you will find by following the "Course Syllabi"
link. You also have access to the UC at Davis Histology lecture notes.
This site has be designed for Netscape Navigator - some of the advanced features will not work with MS Internet Explorer. - JayDoc HistoWeb
- The histology site of the University of Kansas Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, USA - A comprehensive set of labelled slides with brief explanations. Some of the images are very nice and very large and slow to load. Part of the contents of this site were produced by medical students for medical students. A set of links useful for medical students is included.
- LUMEN
- The histology site of Loyola University Strich School of Medicine, Chicago, USA - Another comprehensive set of labelled slides with brief explanatory notes. It is one of the most widely refered to histology site on the WEB and it has been around for a long time by web standards (apparently since 1995). The site is very straightforward to use but the images begin to show their age. Pages labelled "Practical" are slide shows with questions and answers.
- Martindale's Health Science Guide - The Virtual Medical Center - Anatomy & Histology Center
- If you need to find information on the WEB relating to Anatomy or Histology, there is a good chance that you will find a suitable link on this site.
