Slide 10 Oviduct
The high degree of infolding makes the oviduct distinctive. The three layers of the oviduct are the serosa (not apparent in this photomicrograph), the muscularis (M), and the mucosa (MU). The folding of the mucosa increases the surface area for nutrient delivery, and the cilia on the epithelial cells lining the lumen (L) propel the egg / zygote to the uterus.
